Every cemetery operates under its own set of rules governing the size, style, material, placement, and installation of monuments and markers. These regulations are not arbitrary — they exist to ensure structural safety, consistent maintenance access, and the long-term dignity of the grounds. Failing to comply with them before ordering a monument can result in costly redesigns, installation delays, or outright rejection of a completed stone. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to know, understand, and comply with the regulations of the cemetery where a monument will be placed. This guide is offered as a general orientation based on our experience serving families across the Mid-South — it is not a substitute for confirming current requirements directly with the cemetery. Monument Size Limits
Cemeteries across the Mid-South specify maximum dimensions for upright monuments — typically a maximum height of 36 to 48 inches above the base, a maximum width of 24 to 36 inches, and a minimum base thickness of 4 to 6 inches. Flat markers are generally limited to a standard size of 24 x 12 inches or 24 x 14 inches, set flush with or slightly above grade. Companion monuments are typically permitted at widths up to 48 to 60 inches. These are general ranges — specific limits vary by cemetery section, lot type, and whether the section was developed under older or newer rules. Always request the current regulation sheet for the specific section where the monument will be placed.
